Selkirk College, founded on April 1, 1967, was the first regional community college in British Columbia. In the 2005-2006 school year, Selkirk College had an enrollment of over 2,200 students. Selkirk College's motto is "Best of all, inquire" which comes from a famous Doukhobor poem.

Campus

Originally with one campus in Castlegar, Selkirk College now has eight campuses across the West Kootenay region: Castlegar, Nelson (3 campuses), Trail, Nakusp, Grand Forks, and Kaslo.

Castlegar campus

The main campus in Castlegar is beautifully situated at the confluence of the Kootenay River and Columbia River, and surrounded by the Selkirk mountain range. The main building was designed by award-winning architect, Arthur Erickson.

Programs

The College offers a broad range of programs, though some only offer the first two years of a four year degree. The programs range from university arts and sciences transfer, nursing, business, aviation, renewable resources, hospitality and tourism, and the trades.

tudent life

There are currently two student unions at Selkirk College. The Selkirk Students' Association represents students at the Castlegar campus, and the Selkirk College Students' Society (Nelson) represents students at the three Nelson campuses.
