Student body

Cypress Bay opened in 2002 with 200 students over its projected capacity. A 9th grade annex was built for the 2003-2004 school year and abolished in 2008. A new building was opened in the main campus for the school year 2005-2006 to alleviate overcrowding. This building was specifically designated to house sophomore courses (not including electives). That same year, the 2006 senior class was the first to have attended the school for all four years and at the same location. This will not occur again until the class of 2012. The graduating class of 2007 was about 1200 students.[citation needed]

During the 2007-2008 school year, Cypress Bay reached a maximum enrollment of more than 5,500 students and was consequently named the most populous high school in the United States. In response, the school board decided to cap enrollment as a temporary measure to alleviate overcrowding and all new registering students were sent over to Western High School. After the 2008-2009 school year the school boundaries were changed and all students south of Griffin Rd. were assigned to the new West Broward High School, while students living in Bonaventure were assigned to Western High School.

In spite of the schools massive student population, there are opportunities and paths for any type of student. The school offers everything from regular classes, to honors, gifted and AP courses. A student may choose to take a challenging path in pretty much any subject he or she might like. Not only that, but there are many electives a students is able to take in order to identify what he or she might like to study in college or work in after graduation. This flexibility teaches students to being to build their futures and experiment with different areas.

In addition to the academic doors, the school offers many clubs and organizations any student could join. There are clubs for student looking to help other, meet other students, get academic help, or pursue a certain passion. The diversity in the school makes the experience of the extra curricular activities an amazing one during high school.

Moreover, the school informs students about after high school education.
