It begins atWest Peachtree Street (U.S. Route 19/State Route 9) andPeachtree Street , just to the north of 17th Street, in northMidtown Atlanta and ends atJesse Jewell Parkway (State Route 369) in Gainesville. The name changes from Buford Highway to Atlanta Highway at the northeast city limits of Buford.The section near downtown Atlanta is a full freeway, from its south end to
Sidney Marcus Boulevard . This was the original alignment of Interstate 85 (Northeast Expressway) through northeast Atlanta.SR 13 once continued northeast past Gainesville, roughly along present State Route 365, to the

The stretch of SR 13 in Doraville and Chamblee is also famous among Atlantans for the different types of ethnic restaurants and shops catering to the local Asian and Hispanic community. Notable places of interest in this area include the Plaza Fiesta and the Buford Highway Farmer's Market.
