History
PCL began operations in 1906, as E.E. Poole Contractors, founded by Ernest Poole of Stoughton, Saskatchewan. In 1913, Ernest Poole relocated the company to Regina and became Poole Construction Company Limited. In 1932, the company relocated to its current corporate headquarters in Edmonton. John and George Poole - Ernest's sons - purchased the company in 1948 and 29 years later in 1977 sold it to employees. In 1978, Poole Construction Company Limited became PCL Construction Limited.
Contribution to Scouts Canada
When Ernest Poole died, he left a large sum of land to Scouts Canada, on lake Wabamun in Alberta, Canada. This is now known as the Ernest Poole Scout camp, and is currently run by Scouts Canada by a few hard working gentlemen, willing to spend a great deal of time helping Scouts Canada.[citation needed]
