business loop in the U.S. state ofMichigan through the City of Marquette along Washington and Front streets. Jurisdiction over the two streets was transferred to the City as part of a route swap that resulted in the decommissioning of the trunkline. It was also previously co-designated BUS M-28, mirroring the BUS US 41/BUS M-28 designations along BUS M-28 in Ishpeming and Negaunee.Route description
The western terminus of former BUS US 41 is the west end of Washington Street. Washington Street is four lanes, divided by a center median before a center turn lane replaces the median. Washington narrows to one lane in each direction at Lincoln Avenue and the turn lane is dropped by Seventh Street. At Front Street, BUS US 41 turned south one block away from
Lake Superior . BUS US 41 ended where US 41 turns south along Front Street at the east end of the Marquette Bypass.cite map|url=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=US-41+%26+W+Washington+St,+Marquette,+Marquette,+Michigan+49855,+United+States&daddr=US-41-BR+%26+S+Front+St,+Marquette,+Marquette,+Michigan+49855,+United+States&hl=en&geocode=&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=46.540025,-87.411315&sspn=0.037548,0.057335&ie=UTF8&ll=46.541565,-87.410316&spn=0.037547,0.057335&z=14 |title=Marquette, MI |cartography=NAVTEQ |publisher=Google Maps |year=2008| accessdate=2008-08-14]History
BUS US 41 was originally a portion of US 41/M-28 before the construction of the Marquette Bypass in the 1960s. It was designated for the first time on the 1964 state highway map. A BUS M-28 designation was added to the route in 1975, making it similar to the BUS US 41/BUS M-28 designation along BUS M-28 in Ishpeming and Negaunee.cite map |publisher=Michigan Department of Transportation |title=Official Transportation Map |year=1975 |inset=Marquette] This second designation was removed by 1982.cite map |publisher=Michigan Department of Transportation |title=Official Transportation Map |year=1982 |inset=Marquette]
BUS US 41 was turned back to local control in a "route swap" between the City of Marquette and the
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on October 10, 2005. MDOT relinquished jurisdiction over BUS US 41 and the unsigned M-554 to the City in exchange for jurisdiction over a section of McClellan Ave used to extend M-553. As a result, BUS US 41 was decommissioned when the City took control over Washington and Front streets.cite press release |title= MDOT and city of Marquette complete jurisdictional transfer |publisher=Michigan Department of Transportation |date=November 9, 2005 |url=http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9620_11057-129975--,00.html |accessdate=2008-07-31]Major intersections
