A naqara (Arabic: نقارة) was an especially large drum that was used by the Mongol in battle.[citation needed] The drum itself was so large it was necessary to have it carried in to battle by a beast of burden, traditionally a camel. Its main use was as a signaling device, to let warriors know when an attack, especially a surprise attack, begin.
