The term "habban" (حبان) is one of several Arabic terms for the bagpipes. The term may be drawn from the Persian word for "bag" [ [http://books.google.com/books?id=RhpFQpXwddoC&pg=PA183&lpg=PA183&dq=bagpipe+habban&source=web&ots=rhpUEnFsMh&sig=yc4hquac1Cu4bXyTPsqzO5hrUAs&hl=en#PPA183,M1 Hurreiz, Sayed Hamid A. "Folklore and folklife in the United Arab Emirates". RoutledgeCurzon 2002. ISBN-13: 978-0700714131] ]

While the term generic, in some areas of the Gulf States the "habban" is more specifically a variant of the Great Highland bagpipe which has been incorporated into local music [ [http://www.octm-folk.gov.om/meng/instrument_mel03.asp Oman Centre for Traditional Music] ] .

In Kuwait, the term "habban" refers to the traditional Bedouin bagpipe [ [http://books.google.com/books?id=ACS3J9mVInMC&pg=PA54&lpg=PA54&dq=bedouin+habban&source=web&ots=l6jTOcRvn8&sig=BdY5AeqzZ1qTin7_Gt-xeiB9ZzE&hl=en Dipiazza, Francesca Davis. "Kuwait in Pictures". Twenty-First Century Books (CT), 2006. ISBN-13: 978-0822565895.] ] .
