State Route 184 is a short state route in the extreme southeastern corner of the San Joaquin Valley, and it links SR 223 to SR 178 northeast of Bakersfield. The entire route is known as "Weedpatch Highway". South of SR 223, the road continues as "Wheeler Ridge Road" before ending at I-5 convert|4|mi|km north of the Grapevine in Wheeler Ridge. Before Caltrans started numbering exits, the "Wheeler Ridge Road" interchange along northbound I-5 was signed as "Lamont/Lake Isabella", as it bypassed the heavily traveled SR 99 and it avoided the Bakersfield area altogether as Lake Isabella traffic headed east out of the Central Valley along SR 178.
