The Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Computer Management and Information Technology abbreviated as CCMIT is an academic unit of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines that specializes in computer science and information technology. The college is located on the third floor, south wing of the main building.

Courses being catered include a bachelor's degree in computer science and information technology and a post-baccalaureate program in computer technology.[1]

History

In 1969, the Faculty of Accountancy of the Philippine College of Commerce (the school from which PUP evolved into) offered short term electronic data processing (EDP) courses.[2]

In less than a decade, in 1977, these EDP courses were transferred to the newly created Electronic Data Processing/Computer Data Processing Management (EDP/CDPM) unit now under the Faculty of Business and Cooperatives headed by Professor Ofelia M. Carague.[2]

After two years, in 1979, the EDP/CDPM unit began to offer its first four-year ladderized baccalaureate course - Bachelor in Computer Data Processing Management (BCDPM).[2]

In December 1986, by virtue of a memorandum signed by then PUP President Nemesio Prudente, the EDP/CDPM unit was transformed into a full blown college called the College of Computer Management and Information Technology (CCMIT) with Dr. Ofelia M. Carague as its first dean.[2]

Academic programs

The College of Computer Management and Information Technology presently offers the following degree programs[1]:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) - evolved from a previous degree program named Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) - is a four year ladderized, skill-oriented program which aims at producing professionals who will harness Information Technology (IT) to generate accurate, reliable, and timely management information for use by decision makers, planners and controllers.[2]
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) - evolved from a previous degree program named Bachelor in Computer Data Processing Management (BCDPM) - is a four year ladderized, work-oriented program that aims at producing professionals who will harness the use of computers in business, industry, government, and other areas.[2]
  • Post Baccalaureate in Computer Technology (PBCpT) - this program covers subject matters on computer operation, programming, system analysis and design, as well as related topics in computer technology.[2] It aims at equipping college degree holders with the necessary basic skills and know how on electronic data processing.[2]
