Santa Mesa, Manila is a district in the city of
Manila , a component ofMetro Manila , the National Capital Region (NCR) ofthe Philippines .The name is derived from the "Santa Mesa de la Misericordia", the owner of the land during the Spanish colonial period, which was an
"obra pía" , meaning "pious work", and provided social services.The original town center, known as a "poblacion", is on Old Santa Mesa Road, from Stop and Shop to V. Mapa. However, the town was enlarged and has come to include the streets of Ramon Magsaysay, Anonas, Santol, Pureza, Bataan, M.H. Dela Fuente, Bacood, and V. Mapa.
The town was merged with Sampaloc and the combination merged with Manila, as districts.
