Overview
The district derived its name from the Oranienburger Tor in the Berlin Customs Wall. Today its customary to apply the name Oranienburger Vorstadt only to the part in the locality Mitte. The district ceased to exist as an administrational unit in 1920 with the Greater Berlin Act.
