Background information

Gomo is back, and those responsible are their biggest fans as well as D.Etelvina who, tired of waiting, decided to publish on the Internet some videos where they talk about the artist and his past successes.[citation needed]

Touched by this, Gomo decided that it was time to return with a new album full of songs that could appeal again to all those who follow his work since his first album Best of Gomo of 2004. This second album is directed to a curious public and an emerging need to know and learn more about the music they hear and enjoy. A generation that builds their opinions and their tastes based on their preferences and hardly is influenced by recommendations of others. As such, it is hard to discover and listen to the curiosity of those who want to hear something new and different, funny and sad, strong and striking, where there is space to dream and give vent to the imagination of everyone. More than a breath of fresh air in an era when the sadness and depression persist in coexist, but in the music of Gomo they have no reason to exist.[1] With production split between Nuno Rafael (Human and Sérgio Godinho) and Gomo, this disc presents itself not only with a new musical aesthetic, but also graphics. All thanks to the imagination of Gomo, but also because of the creativity, professionalism and experience of Nuno Rafael and Nelson Carvalho (David Fonseca, Rita Red Shoes, etc..), Who mixed all the themes that make this disc, named Nosy. The graphic was made by Mónica Valley (ex-creative director at Strat Design), Nuno Santos (photo) and Filipe Santos (post-production), who begin the unveiling of a disk more refined and more mature, which becomes apparent as soon as they hear the first notes of the disc. The title of the album, "Nosy", represents Gomo's personality, in its cover, we can see, some of characteristics of Gomo, like: Confidential person (see the keys in his mouth); Angry man (see raining clouds above his head); free man (see the birds next to his head); person who loves family (see the woman and the children next to his mouth). The title "Nosy" was proposed by Mónica Valley.[2]

Release and promotion

On April 5, 2009, was posted on Gomo's Myspace page: "Finally the new album from Gomo will be in stores on April 20th, until then listen to the single "Final Stroke", which already runs on some national radio stations. The commercial radio and Antena 3, in support of the new Portuguese music once again. However do not miss the videos of the true fans of Gomo. This week we published the testimony of D. Etelvina, who left the Gomo truly thrilled.[3] " The album has been released on April 20, 2009 in Portugal and on May 4, 2009 in the UK and Europe. CD and Digipack editions are available on both places. In an interview gave to IOL Música on January 2009, gomo talked about his concept for the album. He explained that the album would be released in a compact disc edition but also in Digipack, to fight the country crisis: "I got really touched when I saw the video that D.Etelvina posted (...) when i released "Best Of" in 2004, our country was fighting the economic crisis, so I wrote lyrics about that situation and made songs for it relationated with crisis. D. Etelvina asked me to work on a new album, and like Portugal is in crisis again, i thougt that was time for me to come back (...) for this album, I was not sure in what format I would release the album, than I decided to release it first in a digipack edition to improve my fans to buy it, because it is a less expensive format and it would provide our economic statement in Portgal, as well our environment.[4] "

To promote the album, Gomo made a few concerts along the country during the year of 2009. In Lisbon at Campo Pequeno, he invited Katy Perry to sing "Come Say You Love" with him. He also went to TV shows like "5 pra meia-noite" to sing a few songs from his album, while he was being entrivisted by Nilton. He promoted the album along the country together with RTP, along their summer shows.[5] "Can you tell by our entry into that stage, both our concert, such as Katy Perry would be something extraordinary. Public incredible, bras flying, palms from beginning to end, shouting, jumping, all singing, so ... all condiments needed for it to be a real spectacle for either party. Has been chilling for us, we have been away from the stage and now we have had a return that I adjectival as "blessed" with an S. Jorge filled as soon as the presentation of the album "Nosy" (June 16) and now with this superb Campo Pequeno full of fantastic people, from the first moment. Thank you all for these moments to remember and continue to appear at the concerts because of people like you is that we need for us to sing the new songs and some old ones, this new tour.[6] " To celebrate his birthday, Gomo produced a concert at St. Jorge cinema on June 16 at 22pm (see poster in right). In a interview made to a newspaper called Destak, he said[7] "Not only is the presentation of the new disc, like the concert will be held on the eve of my birthday. The idea is to extend a little party, to blow out the candles with the Gomo. Want to have a relaxed concert, with lots of interactivity with the public" Tickets were available everywhere: in Shooppings or other shops. To improve the tickets sales, magazines like Palco Principal made contests to gomo's fans get tickets, they ask questions about him and they answer them. The best five answers receive tickets for Gomo's show.[8] These are some of the cities where Gomo has performed: Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga, Aveiro, Guimarães, Faro, Póvoa Do Varzim

Singles

The single "Final Stroke", (which we can hear on radio stations such as Commercial, Radar, Antena 3, Antena1, TSF and Mega FM, just to emphasize some), with the participation of Rafel Nuno on bass and guitar and also Sergio Nascimento (David Fonseca and Sergio Godinho) on drums. It is a theme that keeps the song format now customary in Gomo, but with an aesthetic pop / rock, more muscular and organic, a little different from their previous records. However, satire and humor still very present in their lyrics, as is the case with this single where Gomo speak of their joys and frustrations in a country which never got used. In its music video, we can see Gomo standing in a paper factory listening to radio when sudenly we breaks up and starts to sing and dancing with a brom, than, a woman appears and he starts to dance with her. During the chorus, gomo runs trough the factory in a shopping car along the woman follows him. "Still Inside Your Mind", the first track of the album, was released on June 2009, it is available in digital and physical purchase. A music video was also produced by Gomo for it. it begins with gomo looking at the sea and when the song begins, we starts to swim and during the chorus, he dives and it starts to rain. The single "Come Say You Love Me" will be released as a physical single during the summer of 2010, during the album's promotion and a music video is being recorded for it at the moment. The shots are taking place in São Miguel, Açores.

Themes and style

During his fan question and answer segment in 2008 MTV Portugal, he stated he would go "futuristic" with his next album. A complete opposite of "Best Gomo". Producer, Nuno Rafel has stated in an interview that Gomo wants a more 'futuristic' sound for the forthcoming album. He said that Gomo invited him to a concert to help analyze every detail including staging, performance and the music. Rafel ended the interview with: "I can tell you that what you will see and hear from Gomo will be different, original, and probably against the grain: the true form for Gomo ... always re-creating himself." Mário Barreiros also revealed: "It's just great. I wouldn't say that it's alternative, I wouldn't say that it's different; Gomo's always been an artist that moves the bar and that's what the great ones do. They don't stay in the same place for too long, and this album is just another move for him. I really feel it's one of his best bodies of work that I've heard since "Best Of Gomo". I think it's really, really amazing and I think it's well put together," he said.

Final Stroke, with the participation of Rafel Nuno on bass and guitar and also Sergio Nascimento (David Fonseca and Sergio Godinho) on drums, was written by Gomo.

"Nosy" is an album that a certain aspect, it is even more positive than "Best Of". The first record had a lot of color, joy, was evident in the very sound of the CD. The most positive thing in "Nosy" is its lyrics, although not reflected there, they are all my experiences. The most positive was that to get always a negative factor on my life and transport him to the music, they always have a positive and optimistic end (...) My mature in age, was also reflected in the composition. Now I know it will be played by a band, so I have to keep in mind all the instruments, because they will be played by musicians rather than schedules that used both the "Best of".

"Final Stroke", is representative of energy and the type of composition that Gomo wants to convey this new album, focusing on bold vocals and arrangements varied, with the intent to surprise, constantly, the listener. A joint production with Nuno Rafael may have dictated this new way of composing, but it is guaranteed that anyone who is accustomed to the sound of Gomo, will continue to review in this new single and this aesthetic. In "Still Inside Your Mind", there is a kind of electro pop sound in the beginning of the song, in the other hand, the rest of the song shows a mixture of rock and pop. This song has been released as the second single of the album.

At Album Scores, it has a score of 65 of 100, indicating generally mixed reviews.[16] A Trompa gave the album a favourable review, saying: "So suddenly, like a pop record - also rock - another cut, thinner, more refinement, more produced. Much better". Antena 1 gave the album a positive review, commenting that "Nosy" is a very good perspective of pop music. CDGO also gave a favourable review, and said: "there is a lot to uncover in this album, such as its songs and lyrics, very good album". Disco Digital gave the album a mixed review and said: "Songs can even be a little more muscular but the Genesis is the same as 'Best Of' and the previous record started from an assumption almost narcissistic (albeit ironic), it loses key points playing at home. Even with some pop songs of great effectiveness". Edusurfa gave the album a negative review, and said "an enjoyable record but not compared with his debut". Ípsilon gave the album a favourable review and said that "Nosy" is a great pop record. Rate Your Music was less positive and gave the album a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars.
