record label , founded byEMI in 1972 as the successor label to the Columbia label. The global success that EMI enjoyed withpop music in the 1960s also exposed trade mark issues as EMI only had the rights to some of its trade marks, most notablyHis Master's Voice and Columbia, in parts of the world withRCA Victor Records and the AmericanColumbia Records owning rights to these trade marks in North America, respectively. Complicating matters was the formation by American Columbia of its own operations in the UK by purchasing Oriole Records and changing its name to that of its then parent companyCBS with the legal trade mark designation bearing the full name of the parent company back then: "Trade Mark of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc." which became highly successful in the UK and becoming a serious rival to EMI.EMI Records picked up the English Columbia roster and signed new acts which would become global successes such asBlue Swede ,Kraftwerk , Queen,Iron Maiden ,Kate Bush ,Sheena Easton andRobbie Williams .ee also
