It is the capital town of the new district created in 2008 by the Kufuor government.[1] To the east is Kpeme, one of the towns in the Gbi Traditional Area. Its southern neighbour is Dafor.
The administrative head for the District Chief Executive based at the Biakoye District Assembly based at Nkonya Ahenkro.
