From April 1992 until 9 May 1993, the University Dzemal Bijedic experienced many irregular and violent changes implemented, practically losing its autonomy.[2]

In May 1993, the effects of war and confiscation of all university property (buildings, equipment, libraries, objects, student standards), which remained in the possession of the newly formed University of Mostar, led to temporary interruption of teaching and scientific processes. From the students' standard of facilities, instead of the earlier modern dorm capacity 550 beds with an array of supporting facilities and opportunities to prepare 1200 meals a day, the students today at area campuses are available to two renovated pavilion, which are a function of the dorm-capacity of 60 beds, space for classroom and a kitchen. Nutrition students placed in the House was organized in the restaurant "Red Cross", which is located in the vicinity. The converted house "Darulilm Vakuf, also within the campus, located 25 students.[7]

In February 2003 the University Council adopted a Plan of Institutional Development in 2003–2010. A number of weaknesses that have been demonstrated so far in the organization and governance of universities has led to the realization of the necessity of implementing higher education reform. With the introduction of new forms of organization and integration, and changes in management, the university will meet the demands for harmonization of higher education and be able to engage as an equal partner in the international university network.[8]
