Naili Abdullah Pasha

Naili Abdullah Pasha

Nail Abdullah Pasha was an 18th century Ottoman grand vizier.

He was a Turk from İstanbul and he took a job in Ottoman bureaucracy. After several minor posts, he was appointed as the reisülküttap (chief of clerks, a post equivalent to modern foreign minister) in 1747, during the reign of Mahmut I. Eight years later, on 19 May 1755 during the reign of Osman III, he was appointed as the grand vizier, the highest post of the empire other than that of the sultan. However, Osman III was an indetermined sultan and was under the influence of Nişancı Ali Pasha, Abdullah Naili's rival. Abdullah Naili Pasha was dismissed by the sultan only after 3 months in the office on 24 August 1755. He was then appointed as the governor of Crete (a island in modern Greece) . Three years later he was appointed as the governor of Jeddah (in modern Saudi Arabia) upon his request. But on his way to Jeddah he died on August 1758.[1]
