Agency Philosophy
Moxie Sozo’s motto is to create soul-stirring, innovative work for a select number of clients. The agency asserts that it offers the capabilities of a large creative shop, but retains the personal attention of a boutique shop. It’s because of this work ethic and mission statement that Moxie Sozo has never lost an account in its entire history.[13]
“Our work has been profiled in books and featured in magazines around the world. We hire the best talent in the industry, frequently receiving several hundred applications for a single position. We value quality over quantity, and turn away accounts that don’t fit our philosophy... We simply believe that it is the little things each of us do as humans that can make a cumulative difference. The team at Moxie Sozo shares the full spectrum of social, political and religious beliefs. One thing that we all agree on: All of us share responsibility for making this world a better place.” - Moxie Sozo website
Moxie Sozo’s current management team includes: Leif Steiner, Principle & Creative Director; Chris Bradley, Vice President of Client Services; Paul Calderbank, Vice President of Marketing & Client Services; Teri Gosse, Vice President of Operations; Jen Luna, Director of Client Services; Stephanie Jacoby, Director of Client Strategy & Media Relations; Sarah Boyd, Senior Accounts Manager; Kelly Gray, Senior Accounts Manager; Kristin Burkholder, Senior Accounts Manager; Suzi Jump, Accounts Manager; Makenzie Mouser, Accounts Manager; Mike Riley, Research & Strategy; and John Supsic, Financial Director.
Environmental Initiatives
Moxie Sozo's operations, including all business travel, are 100% carbon neutral. Purchased through NativeEnergy, our Carbon offset supports the non-profit organization Clean Air-Cool Planet.[14] Our zero waste operations program is operated, monitored and audited by Eco-Cycle. Moxie Sozo is powered by 100% renewable energy purchased through NativeEnergy, a leader in the renewable energy market. The agency especially enjoys working with clients who share a common interest in the benefits of Corporate social responsibility.
In March 2011, Ball Corp. asked Moxie Sozo to help redesign its website to convey its commitment to sustainability and to corporate social responsibility practices. Ball Corp.'s new site will showcase its push toward aluminum and steel cans versus their traditional glass jars that the company was previously well known for. It will also feature additional information about Ball Corp.'s internal Nonprofit organization that ships canned water to children in underdeveloped countries.
The Hurricane Poster Project and The Haiti Poster Project
In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Steiner organized a group of international designers and artists to create The Hurricane Poster Project. Designers from all over the world were asked to make and submit posters that could be then sold online to raise money for the victims and the Red Cross. More than 180 different limited-edition series of posters were produced, raising more than US$50,000. In 2007, Leif Steiner was awarded the Circle of Humanitarians Award, the American Red Cross's highest honor.
Three days after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Leif Steiner of Moxie Sozo and Josh Higgins organized The Haiti Poster Project, a collaboration of 350 designers from 17 countries. The project gained worldwide media attention within days of launching, and the effort has raised thousands of dollars for victims of the earthquake. As a result of this effort, Steiner - along with Lead Designer and Pentagram (design studio) Partner Harry Pearce [15] and Photographer Richard Foster [16] - won the D&AD Professional Award for his contributions to the Haiti disaster relief.[17]
