Mounts Bay Full name Mounts Bay RFU Union Rugby Football Union Founded 1999 Disbanded Ceased to play rugby in 2009 Location Penzance, Cornwall, UK Ground(s) Mennaye Field League(s) National Division 2 2008/09 13th Official website www.mountsbay-rfc.co.uk Mounts Bay RFC were a Cornish rugby club formed in December 1999 based in Penzance, UK and folded in July 2009.[1] Initially formed as an offshoot from Penzance and Newlyn RFC the club operated as an independent club. Mounts Bay were promoted at the end of the 2007-08 season and competed in National Division Two in the 2008-09 season.[2] However, in the Summer of 2009 the club folded citing financial problems and withdrew from the league structure altogether.

2006/07 Season
At season end Mounts Bay have had another very successful year. Mounts Bay are promoted to the National Leagues after finishing as champions of Southwest 1 with three games to play. The team has also reached two finals, the Cornwall County Cup where they played Redruth two leagues higher than Mounts Bay. Bay losing this one, on Sunday 15 April, Bay made their first visit to Twickenham in the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup Final against former winners Dunstablians.
Mounts Bay won the match and completed a Cornish Trophy double; they won the game 46-36
Mounts Bay RFC has a very successful supporters club called The Boarding Party.
In August 2007 they signed Cornish lock Richard Carroll.

2007/08 Season
In their first season in the National Leagues, Mounts Bay Rugby Football Club continues its meteoric rise through the Rugby league structure, finishing in 1st place in National Division Three South Mounts Bay are again promoted, their eighth promotion in nine seasons, and will be playing in National Division Two in the coming 2008/09 season. The club will be strengthening its team for this season, with a number of players joining the side with experience at this and higher levels. The side have new kit suppliers this season, joining with Irish company O'Neills, to make replica kit more widely available the club now have a shop in Penzance town centre. In addition to its league championship Mounts Bay also won the Cornwall Super Cup.
2008/09 Season
Mounts Bay faced their first and only relegation. Debts and few assets left the club in danger facing administration and a very uncertain future. Following their AGM in July 2009, the club folded after the possibility of playing sharing with Redruth RFC had finally broken down.[4]
