About the college
Military College of Engineering, Risalpur, is one of Pakistan's premier civil engineering institutes, and is one of many educational institutues that come under the umbrella of National University of Sciences and Technology NUST. Its students, upon graduation, are hired by some of the finest construction and engineering firm in Pakistan, and the world.
Location
The College is located in Risalpur, in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, and is located right next to Pakistan Air Force Academy. Its located 5 km from Nowshera and 30 km from Peshawar which is Pakistan's 6th largest city. The remote location of the college as often posed a lot of problems for the students, since not many shops are located nearby, and cellular phone signals of some providers are also pretty weak in the region. Besides, It is very advantageous in the sense that it forms a sort of University town where Civil Engineering related faculty, students and professionals live together. This develops an everlasting link between these professionals throughout their careers.
Grading system
The college, like all constituent colleges of NUST, follow the US semester system, in which a GPA of 2.00 or more is required to stay in the college, if the GPA falls below 2.00 the student get demoted to the previous semester and is put under probation, and if his GPA still doesn't improve, then the students is expelled from the college. Besides, if four subjects of a students are accumulated which he cannot pass or he was unable to appear, he is withdrawn from the college. Such system makes sure that only those are passed out of this premier college who are really eligible. System is relative and absolute mix, on average C is awarded to the students. Out of 100 students in a class, 4 are given A, maximum 10 are given B+, then from 10-15 are given B and C+, on average C or D is awarded, and a bunch of students are awarded F grade to improve the quality of education and competition in MCE, any student having his aggregate 60 is given F grade according to absolute system, and other F holders hold this grade due to relative grading system. A=4 B+=3.5 B=3.0 C+=2.5 C=2.0 D=1.0 F=0.0
In some cases those students are awarded with good grades who give 100% good feedback to the teachers, and Army students are always favored in grading. So this system makes the students go crazy often. Every now and then students go to mad house after graduating from here.
