Michael Rose (born April 6, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. He plays at shooting guard or small forward. He plays for the Southland Sharks in the New Zealand National Basketball League. He averaged 22.6ppg in seven games for the side and was 7th in the league in points and steals.

College

Rose played for the EKU Colonels during his four year college career. During his college career he was compared to New Jersey Nets Shooting guard Courtney Lee and San Antonio Spurs Point guard George Hill due to his versatility and scoring ability.

2005-2006 season

He began for the Colonels in the 2005-2006 season where he came mainly off the bench and averaged 6.2ppg. But after senior Guard Matt Witt left the side it gave Rose the opportunity to be a regular starter in the 2006-2007 season. The team had a 14-16 record.

2006-2007 season

In his next season he became a regular starter in the side. His team won 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament and he was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player and was named in the OVC All-Tournament Team. He also led his team in the NCAA Tournament where the lost in the first round to UNC who had future NBA players Ty Lawson, Brandan Wright, Danny Green, Wayne Ellington and Tyler Hansbrough.

2007-2008 season

In 2007-2008 he continued to improve as a basketballer averaging 15.3 ppg and 4.4 rpg contributing to the teams disappointing 14-16 record. Despite the team's poor record Rose was still named in the OVC First Team.

2008-2009 season

In his final year of college Rose continued his statistical improvement averaging 20.0ppg and 5.3rpg. He once again was named to the OVC First Team and along with being named to the NABC Division I All-District 19 First Team along with Lester Hudson, Drake Reed, Kenneth Faried and Wes Channels. A number of predictions for the 2009 NBA Draft included Mike in the Top 20 selections[1] but he went undrafted.

Pro career

Michael began his professional career signing with Oyak Renault Bursa[2] after going undrafted in the NBA Draft. He played one game for the side before being released.

Australasia

After the disappointment of being released by Oyak Renault Bursa, Rose was signed by Australian National Basketball League side the Melbourne Tigers. He played a total of seven games in the 2009-2010 ANBL season helping the side to sixth place. Having been signed in the late part of the season by the Tigers he once again had to find a new club to play at. He opted to stay in Australasia signed a short term contract[3] to play for the Southland Sharks[4] in the New Zealand National Basketball League where he became a fan favourite averaging 22.6ppg and becoming an influential part of the teams first home win in their short history in his final game before returning to the United States of America. He received a standing ovation from the Stadium Southland crowd after his role in the Sharks early season form.
