Mangiferin is a xanthonoid, a chemical compound found in mangoes and in Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizomes.[1]

This molecule is a natural phenol and shows antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.[2] It shows inhibitory effects on type II 5α-reductase in vitro[3] It shows gastroprotective[4] and antidiabetic[1] effects in rodents.
