Mahagama ( Hindi: महागामा ) is a small town in the north-east of state Jharkhand. Mahagama block is one of eight revenue blocks of Godda district and an assembly constituency in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Mahagama and Urjanagar together forms Twin towns of Mahagama block and therefore is a major economic center of the district.The Urjanagar township is full planned and all the amenities can be seen here. Mahagama is located 25.88 km distance from its district main city Godda and 278 km distance from its state capital Ranchi .

Geography
Mahagama is located at 25°02′N 87°19′E / 25.03°N 87.32°E .The total area covered by the Mahagama block is about 15953 Hcs and the average elevation is 69 metres above sea level. Mahagama is surrounded by hilly areas with Kaleshari mountain in the east side of town. Laterite soil, Red soil are type of soil found in this block.
Climate
Mahagama experiences hot dry summer, a good rainy season and cool winter. Thunder storms accompanied with sever squalls occur in pre-monsoon months. Average daytime highs are in the mid 80s°F to low 90s°F (around 30–32 °C) throughout the state in July, with overnight lows in the mid 60s°F to low 70s°F (20–22 °C). Dust storms also occur occasionally in April and May. Morning fogs are seen in winter season.
Flora and Fauna
Trees in this part of district can be classified in three groups – fruit-bearing tress , tress for timber and fuel and flower producing tress , Among fruit-bearing tress Mango, Jacktree, Date-palm, Imli, Plum, Wood Apple, Custard Apple, Bair tree (Ziziphus Mauritiana) are most common. Trees of jack fruit and mango are distributed across the block and Avla, Black plum, Guava, Papaya trees are also available in large number. Mahua (basis latifolia), Gamhar (genelina arborea), Asan (Terminalia tomentosa), Murga (Ptercarpus marsupium), Shisham (Dahbergia sissso), Sal (Shorearobusta), Margosa (Melia Azadirachta), Semar (Silk Cotton) and Sahjan (Morniga aneiphera) etc. are used as timber trees. Some medicinal plants have also been identified, which are used in incurable diseases. Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) is one easily available such plant.
Demographics
Town population has risen sharply in last decade due to development and migration from neighborhood areas. As of 2001 India census, the town had a population of 8,646. The following chart shows population statistics of Mahagama block:
Devlopement
Establishment of Rajmahal Coal Mining Project in 80’s triggered the development of Mahagama. Since then it has grown from a small village to a potential town. Basua Chowk and Shopping Complex are main attraction for shoppers. Multiple hotels and complexes are opening due to growing demand. The town is also the home for Shyam Seva Trust Foundation, a charity organization that aims at helping poor and needy people of this territory. Land rates and Inflation have risen significantly in past years.
Education
Around 103 Primary School, 20 Middle School, 8 Secondary School, 1 Senior Secondary School and many private schools are functional in Mahagama block as per census 2001. In last few years, many private run secondary and higher-secondary schools are opened. Recently, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) is opened in town area to provide elementary level education with boarding facilities for girls belonging predominantly to the SC, ST, OBC and minorities in difficult areas.D.A.V Public School is the most reputed school which is also the best amongst nearby districts.Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is situated in the outer periphery of mahagama.

The town has frequent connection with Godda, Bhagalpur, Kahlgaon and Pirpanti. Public transport is provided by buses, auto rickshaws and local vans. Bus services are also available for Sahibganj, Dumka, Deoghar and Ranchi. The territory has no rail link and air link.Helipad can be seen in the Urjanagar township of Mahagama. The nearest railway station is Kahlgaon Railway station. Jasidih and Bhagalpur Railway stations serve as primary gateway to travel other part of country.
Sports and Lifestyle
Cricket is the most popular sport in Mahagama. People can be seen playing cricket on the streets. Football, Kabaddi, Badminton are some other popular sports played in this region. Rajendra Stadium is situated in the heart of Urjanagar town. This stadium has been hosting many state level games and other sport events. Durga Puja is a major festival of Mahagama. People from distant places come to worship and enjoy puja season. This festivity ends with Lanka Dahan program celebrated in the campus of Rajendra Stadium with full of viewers.
