Jesse Joseph Quin (born 3 September 1981, Bedford) is an English multi-instrumentalist, best known as the bass and percussion player of the British rock band Keane. He is the youngest member of the band.

Life and career

Quin's Mother is the folk singer Charity Quin. His Father is a sound engineer. He grew up in Suffolk in England before moving to Bristol and then to London. Quin is married to Julia Quin née Dannenberg. Keane, The Puppini Sisters, Mumford & Sons, King Charles and Laura Marling performed at the couple's wedding.

Quin uses a Harmony acoustic guitar, a Guild Starfire electric guitar and a Fender Telecaster electric guitar when performing with The Mets and Mt. Desolation. He uses Fender Precision Bass, Ampeg Amplifiers and Roland keyboards when performing with Keane.

He also plays with various other bands and artists including playing drums in Mumford & Sons' alter-ego side-project The Wedding Band. His previous bands include Unit On and The Ordinance. Quin used to play in Laura Marling's band. He also used to play guitar in Union Sound Set and Hoodlums. Quin was once tour manager of The Puppini Sisters, and appeared in the video for their 2007 song "Jilted". Jesse still sings in the band Jesse Quin & The Mets from time to time as well.

Keane

The first time that Jesse played in Keane, it was during the concerts to promote the single The Night Sky at the end of 2007. The three members of Keane at the time were impressed by the way Jesse played bass, so he was invited to participate in the recordings of the band's third album, Perfect Symmetry, in 2008.

He recorded with Keane on their third album, Perfect Symmetry, which was released on 13 October 2008, on which he played bass guitar, electric guitar, backing vocals and additional percussion.

Jesse was well with the three members of Keane, and became close friends. Quin not only did his work as a session musician, also participated in the creation of the entire album with the band. That's why Tim, Tom and Richard invited him to accompany them in the Perfect Symmetry World Tour, as bassist.

He recorded with Keane once again on their 2010 EP, Night Train, which was released on 10 May 2010, and went straight to number one in the UK Albums Chart.

In January 2010, Quin recorded an album with his friend and bandmate Tim Rice-Oxley, and with some friends under the moniker, Mt. Desolation. The other performers on the record included members of Noah And The Whale, The Long Winters, Mumford & Sons, The Killers and Pete Roe. The album was released on 18 October 2010. It was produced by American producer, Emery Dobyns.

It was announced on 3 February 2011 on the official Keane website that Quin had become an official member of the band^[1]. Keane posted a message on their official page on 3 February 2011 stating:

"Hi everyone. We're excited to tell you that after more than three years as our bass player and friend, Jesse Quin is joining Keane for good. Jesse has been making music with us since our War Child shows back in 2007, and through the making of Perfect Symmetry and the Night Train E.P. He's an amazing musician, and these days we can't imagine life in Keane without him. We know many of you have taken him to your hearts as we have toured the world over the last three years, so the only difference will be the chance to hear what he has to say in interviews and see him in photos like this one. Lots of love, Tim, Tom, Richard and Jesse"
