Petrowski was born in Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from Newman High School before briefly attending UW–Marathon County and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.[1] Petrowski was first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1998, and served as its Majority Caucus Sergeant at Arms from 2003 to 2007.[2]
Petrowski introduced a bill in 2007 to ban teenagers from using cell phones while driving.[3] When this bill did not come up for a vote,[4] he introduced a bill that would prohibit teenagers from texting while driving in 2008.[5]
