At the 2006 census, its population was 9,933, in 2,537 families.[2]
The city was a merger to two smaller settlements Buin (Persian: بوئين), also Romanized as Bū’īn and Boo’in, and Miandasht (Persian: مياندشت), also Romanized as Mīāndasht, Meyāndasht, and Mīyandasht.
This city and its surroundings is mainly populated by the Iranian Georgians. The locals call it Toreli.[3][4][5][6][7][8]
