It was located on the "island" surrounded by the River Don and the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation (S&SYN). It opened in 1954 and received significant quantities of its coal by boat, to its own staithe, using the S&SYN. It closed on 31 October 1983 and had a generating capacity of 122 MW.[1] HM Prison Doncaster, a private prison, has been built on the power station's site.
