Dimitra (Greek: Δήμητρα) is a village in the municipal unit of Kontovazaina, Arcadia, Greece. As of 2001, it had a population of 209 for the village, and 221 for the municipal district.

Location and transportation

Dimitra is located WNW of Levidi and of Tripoli, ENE of Pyrgos and Olympia and SSE of Patras.

The village has about 2 km of paved road, 5 km of gravel road and has about 4 km of hydro and phone lines.

Geography

The village is built on a slope with a gorge that features the Ladon River next to its lake which is founded east.

Most of the area are forested from the valleys to near the mountaintops, farmlands are within the village and deforested parts covers the remainder of the area.

History

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until the 1980s. Dimitra became connected with asphalt in the 1970s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of North Kynouria. A great population loss occurred between 1991 and the 2000s.
