Lyssarea is a village in Southwestern
Arcadia ,Greece . It belongs to theIraea municipality ofGortynia . It is built on slopped hillsides of “Ai Lias” and “skularas” hills and appears amphitheatric with its old stone houses and tile roofs. The oldest dated house in Lyssarea was built in to 1787. The majority of old inhabitants were builders (Greek χτιστάδες – μαστόροι).It is located 30 km from Lyssarea –
Dimitsana A few kilometers from Lyssarea lies the Ancient Irea (Greek Αρχαία Ηραία). The road directs to Ancient Olympia from Lyssarea(65 km viaLutra Ireas andLiodora )Until 1928, Lyssarea was known as "Bugiati" (a name of unknown origin). In the 1960s, its population was only 800 people. The central square opened 14 commercial stores and shops. The Lyssarea People’s Association, (Greek Σύλλογος Απανταχού Λυσσαρεωτών, publishes a local journal "Grigrilidi", featuring cultural content four times a year,
