Nymfasia (Greek: Νυμφασία) is a village in the municipal unit of Vytina, Arcadia, Greece. As of 2001, it had a population of 251 and it sits at 1,000 m above sea level. The Ladon river flows to the west and the Mainalo mountains lie to the east.

Location

Nymfasia is 45 km (1 hr) northwest of Tripoli about 190 km (old: 240 km) (3 hrs) west of Athens, 75 km south of Kalavryta, 70 km north of Megalopoli amd about 100 km east of Pyrgos.

Geography and history

The village was known as Granitsa (meaning woods) from a source that in the area planted several coniferous trees during the day. It tied that the previous name (as well as many village around the area) were Slavic; it changed its name during G. Kondylis' rule and became Nymfasia from the village springs. According to mythology, the Nymphasia springs was the area that bathed the nymphs from the wakeful look of the ancient gods that fertilized the herd. Pan in which he molested (in which he was panic, the word that originates). Nymfasia had a population of Methydrio which it was scattered throughout the Mylaontos River which enclosed the Mainalo - Argyrokastro - Chelmos and examined up to the municipality of Nassoi.

Modern history

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until 1951 through to 1971, it became one of the few villages in Arcadia to regain is population. Dessino became connected with asphalt in the 1980s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of Vytina.

Nymfasia today is framed from young people which emigrated to larger cities and the developed world, it is popular aroudn the area. The location if famous for the rushing into the spruce forest and its written villages (Vytina, Magouliana, Levidi, Vlacherna). The area is famous for its winter sport which occurs in the nearby ski center.
