David Bradford (businessman)

David Bradford (born 1950) has been a business leader in the information technology market for over 30 years. Most recently, Mr. Bradford served as CEO of Fusion-io until April of 2010 after which he assumed the role of Chairman of the Board. He was named the “Executive of the Year”[1] in the State of Utah for 2010 by the Utah Technology Council (UTC)[2]. In January of 2011, David was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the State of Utah [3] by Utah Business Magazine.

During his tenure as CEO, he employed Steve Wozniak[4], co-founder of Apple, as the Company’s Chief Scientist, assisted in securing key strategic partnerships with IBM, Dell, Samsung, and HP, helped raise over $100 Million in capital and saw the company named the #1 Most Promising I.T. Company in America by the Wall Street Journal[5] and the most innovative up-and-comer in the world by Business Week[6] readers. He speaks and consults frequently on social media and networking.

Career

His involvement with Fusion-io began in June 2008, when he chaired its advisory board and introduced Steve Wozniak into the company. He became chief executive officer in February 2009,[7] and chairman in May 2010 and continues to serve the Company as Chair of its Strategic Advisory Board.

From 1985-2000, Bradford served as senior vice president and general counsel of Novell, Inc. Mr. Bradford helped lead Novell from start up through a series of acquisitions, public offerings and business development activities which led to its place as a multi-billion dollar corporation. His responsibilities at Novell spanned four different divisions including legal, government relations, business development and security. He figured prominently in antitrust litigation involving Microsoft and Novell. Though it was filed in Europe, it resulted in the United States Department of Justice and the European Commission collaborating on a Consent Decree that barred Microsoft from engaging in anti-competitive practices.[8] Bradford is an advocate of fair competition.[9] During his last three years at Novell, Mr. Bradford reported to Eric Schmidt, now Chairman and CEO of Google.[10]

During this time period, Mr. Bradford also twice served as Chairman of the Board of the Business Software Alliance, the world’s leading industry trade association representing companies like Microsoft, Novell, Lotus, Oracle, etc.

Board Experience

Bradford has served on the Board of Directors of both public and private companies and is currently on the board of Pervasive Software. Advisory Board experience includes Omniture, as well as early stage technology companies.[which?] He is a Trustee and a member of the Executive Committee for the Utah Technology Council.

Advisory board members that Bradford recruited to Fusion-io include: Steve Young; Michael Leavitt; Ray Bingham, former CEO of Cadence Design Systems, a member of Oracle's board of directors, and a partner with General Atlantic; Stephen M.R. Covey, author of "The Speed of Trust;” and Victor Tsao, Founder of Linksys.

He is currently serving as a Senior Advisor to SCP Worldwide (Sports Capital Partners) and David Checketts, former President of Madison Square Garden and the New York Knicks, a sports, entertainment and media enterprise operated by some of the industry's most successful executives. He is serves on other advisory boards and is the founder of several companies.

Venture Capital & Political Experience

From 2001 to 2008, Mr. Bradford was actively engaged in a variety of work including serving as a national co-chair for Mitt Romney "Romney for President", a partner with one of the top ten law firms in the country, Greenberg Traurig, as General Counsel of Dynix Corporation, the world's leading supplier of library software, and as general counsel to the Governor Elect of Utah, Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. (former ambassador to China and potential candidate running for President of the United States). Additionally, he served as CEO, Founder and Advisor to multiple Web 2.0 companies. Mr. Bradford has also been very active in the angel, venture and private equity markets and continues to serve as a senior advisor to Huntsman-Gay Global Equities.

He led a team that wrote and passed the Utah Venture Capital Enhancement Act, which provided a pool of over $100 million for investing in venture capital funds.

While at Novell, for a two year period, Bradford was responsible for the company’s $150 million venture capital fund. He also launched FundingUniverse, a website that matches entrepreneurs with angel investors. He is a Senior Advisor to the private equity firm of H&G Capital Partners. He also worked along with Meg Whitman, former Chief Executive Officer of eBay, as a national co-chair for Romney for President.

Founding Companies

In 2010, Mr. Bradford founded a social networking website[11] for LDS Professionals designed to connect people of similar values. LDS.Biz provides a platform for individuals to connect to business opportunities, other professionals, service opportunities and with others who share business and other interests.

He also Co-Founded FundingUniverse.com (now Lendio.com) along with Paul Allen, co-founder of Ancestry.com. Additionally, Bradford was the Founder of LinkingUniverse, a professional networking company that built what was described at the time as the most robust business application on Facebook. In 2008, he assisted his wife, Linda, in establishing the VIEW- Virtual Immersive Educational World which is establishing a new paradigm for on-line education by utilizing robust 3D animation and avatars. Achievements & Awards

Bradford’s involvement in the computer industry led to his being featured on the PBS Special – Nerds 2.0.1: A Brief History of the Internet. He has been interviewed on CNN involving matters of international trade. Additionally, he was founder of the Intermountain Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association (ACCA) and served as a Trustee for the Western Governor’s University.

Bradford was appointed by the Governor of the State of Utah to serve as a member of the state’s Judicial Nominating Board selecting the State Supreme Court Justices. From 1996 to 2004, he served on the Board of Trustees of Utah Valley State University.

In 1997, he was honored as the “Alumnus of the Year” for the J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University (BYU).

He was named the “Executive of the Year” in the State of Utah for 2010 by the Utah Technology Council (UTC). In January of 2011, David was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the State of Utah by Utah Business Magazine.

Education

Bradford has a law degree from BYU, a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from BYU.

Personal information

Bradford has been married to Linda Warne for over 35 years and has four children and 15 grandchildren. His nickname is “The Human Internet” for his enthusiasm for social media and his 5000 Facebook friends and 5000 Linkedin connections.
