Coop (Netherlands)
Old-style Coop supermarket in Ureterp

Coop Supermarkten is a supermarket chain founded in 1865 in Zaandam, Netherlands. It's named after the cooperative aspects of the company. Last year (2009) Coop Supermarkten changed her name from CoopCodis to Coop Supermarkten for a better identity amongst costumers. It also started a large campaign: "Bij (super)Coop bent U de baas" (translation: "You are the boss at (super)Coop!").

In the years before that the company launched a new type of store (Supercoop), these large stores are placed in areas where there is usually a lot of competition of other chains and they are seen a respone on the Dutch price war. With these new stores the colors that the chain used where gradually changes from red and blue to orange, red and grey. Currently they are in the progress of integrating nineteen stores they have acquired through an acquisition on the Netherlands market.

At the moment (May 2009), the marketshare is around 2,5 per cent [1]. Prices can be further discounted by using a customer discount card, called "CoopClub card" in Dutch. Their (new) logo is the type of Store (Coop, Supercoop or Coop Compact) in orange with a big red striking arc under it.".

Types of stores
