It is located on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Douro is the site of drumlins known as the Drumlins of Douro.
Douro has a Jr. A hockey club called the Douro Dukes of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League, who began play in the 2007-08 season.
The local post office in Douro's general store has been run by the same family since the late 19th century.
