Early Life & Background

Born to two classical musicians in Mowbray, Cape Town. Cape was heavily involved musically throughout his school career playing Cello from age seven in both orchestral and solo capacities. In 2003 he was awarded a music scholarship to South Africa’s top school Diocesan College. Through the next few years Cape began exploring Jazz and Gospel music with South African Jazz legend Shannon Mowday and friend Jaydine Baron, keyboard player and producer for Danny K among others.

Move to the UK and Studies

Shortly before leaving South Africa in 2006, Cape completed his Grade 8 Cello with ABRSM and achieved one of the top marks in the category, resulting in a scholarship offer from Royal Schools of Music in London. Cape turned down the offer from ABRSM, as his contemporary music studies at ACM had already commenced. In 2010 he graduated with a National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and an Honours Degree in contemporary music majoring in Guitar.

You Know What I Mean? EP

Cape’s self-released debut EP 'You Know What I Mean?' was more rock-rap orientated than anything he has done since. The sound of the album was almost entirely based on the extensive touring Cape had done with his live band the year leading up to it’s release. Notable band members during this era included singer-songwriter Georgia Mason and now film-score composer Calum Upton.

Direction change & Message from Outer-Space

Cape began drawing on influences Grandaddy and David Bowie among others experimenting more with synthesized elements and space themed lyrics. This new direction led to a more theatrical live show as well as the DIY music video Major Tom (a reference to Bowie's fictional character Major Tom) and its Message from Outer-Space EP.
