The following is a discography of Extreme, a Boston-based hard rock/heavy metal band. Extreme has released five studio albums, two EPs (only in Japan), two compilations, and eleven singles. This list does not include material performed by members or former members of Extreme that was recorded with Van Halen, DramaGods, Tribe of Judah, Mourning Widows, Satellite Party, HurtSmile and Super TransAtlantic.

Overview

Extreme was formed in 1985 by Gary Cherone (vocals), Nuno Bettencourt (guitars), and Paul Geary (drums). After several lineup changes, the band settled on Pat Badger on bass, respectively. Extreme started playing locally in the Boston area, and Cherone and Bettencourt began writing songs together. The band had accumulated approximately 55 songs by the time A&R director Bryan Huttenhower signed Extreme to A&M Records in 1988, then finally recorded first album, "Extreme", which was released in the following year. While the album was released on a major label, it did not sell very well and produced only one single. The album also featured "Play With Me", which was used as the "mall chase" song in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure".

In August 1990, Extreme released their second album, "Pornograffitti". The critically-acclaimed album, also the band's most successful, debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200, and was certified Gold and Platinum certified album by the RIAA. While the album was not as successful as "Pornograffitti", it obtained gold status and spawned the hits "Rest in Peace", "Stop the World" and "Tragic Comic".

Before the band could work on their next album, Geary left Extreme in 1994 to pursue a career in the business side of the music industry, managing successful acts such as Godsmack, and was replaced by then future and now former Annihilator drummer Michael Mangini. Mangini was present on their long-awaited fourth album, "Waiting for the Punchline" (1995), which was labeled as a "grunge" album and received lukewarm reviews. After releasing that album, the band decided to call it quits in 1996, in amicable terms.

While Extreme was mostly inactive from 1997 to 2003, Cherone joined Van Halen to record only one album before leaving in 1999 and later formed Tribe of Judah, who has so far released only one album, and Bettencourt went solo and formed two new projects Mourning Widows and DramaGods. Extreme reunited in 2004 for a short tour playing in their hometown Boston at the WAAF anniversary as well as a few concerts in Japan and Azores. However, this reunion did not last. The band would not reform again until two years later when the "classic" "Pornograffitti" line-up reunited for a three-show reunion tour in New England.

In November 2007, Extreme announced that they would be reuniting full time, with plans for a world tour and new album. The band's fifth studio album, "Saudades de Rock", was released in August 2008 and would be their first album of new material in 13 years. Kevin Figueiredo, who played with Bettencourt in DramaGods and Satellite Party, took over drum duties for the album.
