Since 2004 the school has been owned and operated by the Cognita Group. Meoncross is the only independent senior school in Borough of Fareham.
History
Meoncross School opened in 1953. After 11 years in a rental property, it relocated to Catisfield House in 1964. In 1969, the school opened a girls’ department in Burnt House in the village of Stubbington, near Fareham. This larger property became the home of the entire school in 1983. The school has also evolved to include a wider age-range. In 1983, it extended to include students to the age of 16, while in 1991 it added a Kindergarten.
Meoncross is now a fully co-educational school, and joined the Asquith Court Schools group (with membership of the Independent Schools Association) in 1995. In 2004, the Asquith Court group was purchased by Cognita Ltd, the largest private schools business in the United Kingdom.
The school today
The school is divided into a Kindergarten, Infant, Junior, and Senior schools. Entry is normally at 4+, 7+ and 11+. Children are able to join at other ages if there is a vacancy. Younger children spend an informal day at the school whilst entry to the Senior School from the Juniors is via an Entrance Examination, often held in February. Children attend the school from all over Fareham borough. It is currently run by the head mistress Mrs James
