The Romsey School is a mixed special school in Romsey, Hampshire, England, focusing on maths and computing. There are currently approximately 1257 children aged 11-16 and 101 teachers. The campus is located in Priestlands just off the Greatbridge Road near Romsey Abbey. The River Test runs alongside it leading to the school being a beautiful and tranquil landscape, maintained by the horticulture students and the excellent site managers.

History

The school moved to its present site in the late 1950s and was originally known as Priestlands Secondary Modern School until the late 1970s when it became a comprehensive. In 2000, it became a Specialist Language College jointly with The Mountbatten School. In 2005 the school's specialisation changed to a Mathematics and Computing College - one of the first British schools to make such a switch. Catchment area

The normal catchment area for the school includes the villages of Ampfield, Braishfield, Sherfield English, Michelmersh, Timsbury and the part of Romsey to the north of the Eastleigh to Romsey railway line, east of the Sun Arch, north of the A27 from the Sun Arch to the Plaza Roundabout, continuing along the by-pass over Middlebridge. The school attracts a significant number of pupils from outside this area, particularly from the nearby city of Southampton. This may be extended however as the dip in population means that the school are struggeling to keep numbers up in the people coming in.

Extracurricular activities

The Romsey School offers a wide range of after school activities, mainly sport based but there are academic based ones as well. There is the noted Big Band, which has served concerts in Bruges, Barcelona and other European cities.
