Amery Hill School

Amery Hill School

Amery Hill School is an 11-16 comprehensive secondary school set on a hill above the market town of Alton in Hampshire, England. Its Headteacher is Mr. Stephen Crabtree. M.A.

It was awarded Music College specialist school status in 2004 by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and was rated 'a good school with many outstanding features' at the last Ofsted inspection (2007). Specialist status has enabled the school to do much to develop the school's excellent reputation for music through outreach into the community and fund work within the primary sector. Children from the whole range of abilities and talents are welcome. Examination performance is strong at both Key Stages 3 and 4. Whilst being well known for its music (approx. ¾ of the students play a musical instrument), it is the ethos of the school which is remarked on mainly by visitors.

In recent years, much has been done to enhance the visual attraction of the pre-war premises through display and redecoration. School facilities include interactive whiteboards and data projectors in all classrooms and an artificial turf sports pitch. The school has recently been designated as 'accessible' through the provision of lifts and ramps to make all parts of the building suitable for disabled persons. Having reached the standard for recognition as a 'High Performing Secondary School', a second specialism in Mathematics is being developed.

The school enjoys close collaboration with nearby Alton College and Amery Hill students attend the College for some enrichment and curriculum courses. In addition the school works closely as a member of the East Hampshire 14-19 Consortium in developing Applied Diplomas for first teaching in 2009.
