Pleasant Valley is a city in Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,124 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Pleasant Valley is located at coor dms|39|27|5|N|80|8|57|W|city (39.451522, -80.149085)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.3 square miles (8.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 3,124 people, 1,361 households, and 899 families residing in the city. The population density was 934.5 people per square mile (361.1/km²). There were 1,484 housing units at an average density of 443.9/sq mi (171.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.89% White, 1.06% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.45% Asian, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population.

There were 1,361 households out of which 27.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.81.

In the city the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,686, and the median income for a family was $43,036. Males had a median income of $30,980 versus $22,219 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,255. About 9.8% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.1% of those under age 18 and 3.3% of those age 65 or over.
