footnotes =Lorenzo is a city in Crosby County,
Texas ,United States . As of the 2000 census, the city population was 1,372. It is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The local economy is supported principally by Speed Traps and agriculture, with
cotton being the most important crop.Wheat ,soybeans , milo, and various other crops are also produced in the Lorenzo area.PEED TRAPS
You will find a large portion of the budgetary needs in the town of Lorenzo are generated through the use of Speed Traps. A speed trap is a location where local law enforcement officers issue citations to out of towners with a zero tolerance. Usually located where there is reduction of speed and unsuspecting motorist may have not completely slowed to the new limit. Located along the section of State Hwys 82 /62 bordered on the west by CR 4000 and on the east by CR 119. Diligently monitored by the chief of police "Robert Bybee", a very pleasant and talkative fellow. Of course the citizens of this community allow this activity to continue, illegal as it may be since 1975 actually, it keeps their taxes from increasing and towns folk are basically immune from receiving citations unless they severely violate the limits and usually get off with a warning. Speed limits are important for everyones safety, but this type of selective enforcement is nothing more than extortion. It would probably suprise the citizens of Lorenzo to know that their city is listed on the majority of speed trap lists maintained across the nation by different entities. It may seem to be a great source of revenue for the city of Lorenzo but truth be known it keeps a large number of people and businesses alike from locating here and doing business here. "The Good Ole Boy system is alive and well in Lorenzo"
