Bayview is a town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 323 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Brownsville–Harlingen Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Bayview is located at coor dms|26|7|46|N|97|24|4|W|city (26.129573, -97.401165)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 square miles (8.5 km²), of which, 2.8 square miles (7.3 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (14.37%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 323 people, 116 households, and 88 families residing in the town. The population density was 115.2 people per square mile (44.5/km²). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 47.5/sq mi (18.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.64% White, 0.93% African American, 0.62% Native American, 3.72% from other races, and 3.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 29.41% of the population.

There were 116 households out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.15.

In the town the population was spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $46,750, and the median income for a family was $56,500. Males had a median income of $51,389 versus $38,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,620. About 8.3% of families and 11.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.3% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Bayview is served by the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District.

In addition residents may apply to schools in the South Texas Independent School District.
