Para ( _bn. পারা) is a town, community development bloc and assembly constituency in Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Geography

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Para community development bloc had a total population of 174,596 of which 90,259 were males and 84,337 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 15.45% for Para, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%. Bilasibala Sahis of CPI(M) has won the Para assembly seat, reserved for scheduled castes, four times in a row defeating her nearest rivals, Sima Bauri of All India Trinamool Congress in 2006, Mira Bauri of AITC in 2001, Gobordhan Bagti of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 1996, and Durgadas Bauri of Indian National Congress in 1991. Gobinda Bauri of CPI(M) defeated Kashinath Bauri of INC in 1987, Sarat Das of INC in 1982 and 1977.
