Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 28.4 square miles (73.5 km²), of which, 28.4 square miles (73.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04% is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,272 people, 428 households, and 339 families residing in the township. The population density was 44.8 people per square mile (17.3/km²). There were 454 housing units at an average density of 16.0/sq mi (6.2/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.74% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 0.16% Asian, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.24% of the population.
There were 428 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.1% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.6% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the township the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $42,652, and the median income for a family was $43,826. Males had a median income of $34,688 versus $22,727 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,509. About 6.5% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.5% of those under age 18 and 1.8% of those age 65 or over.
