"Penion" is a genus of large sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Buccinidae, the true whelks.

Distribution

Species within this genus are endemic to south eastern Australia and New Zealand.

Habitat

These snails are found intertidally to deep water.

hell decription

These snails have large shells with a tall spire and a long flexuous siphonal canal. The operculum is leaf-shaped with an incurved terminal nucleus. The protoconch is tall, cylindrical, of 2.5 to 3.5 smooth whorls. The radula formula is 1+1+1, with both the central and the lateral teeth tricuspid.
