Charles Anthony Ryan Silvera (born October 13, 1924 in San Francisco, California) is a retired American professional baseball player, a catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1948 through 1957 for the New York Yankees (1948-56) and Chicago Cubs (1957). Listed at 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m), 175 lb (79 kg), he batted and threw right-handed.
Silvera spent most of his nine seasons with the Yankees as a backup for Yogi Berra and Elston Howard. His most productive season came in 1949, when he posted career-numbers in games (58) and RBI (13), while hitting .315 (41-for-130). Being eligible for seven World Series, he appeared only in Game 2 of the 1949 Series. Before the 1957 season, he was dealt by New York to the Cubs in exchange for fellow catcher Harry Chiti.
In a 10-season career, Silvera was a .282 hitter (136-for-482) with one home run and 52 RBI in 227 games, including 34 runs, 15 doubles, one triple, and a .356 on-base percentage.
Following his majors career, Silvera played in the Cubs minor league system and scouted for the Washington Senators. After that he spent several seasons as a bullpen coach under Billy Martin, working for the Minnesota Twins (1969), Detroit Tigers (1971-73) and Texas Rangers (1973-75).
