Cheng Yuanzhi Traditional Chinese 程遠志 Simplified Chinese 程远志 Transcriptions Mandarin - Hanyu Pinyin Chéng Yuǎnzhì Cheng Yuanzhi is a fictional character in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. He was a Yellow Turban rebel general.[1] Cheng, along with Deng Mao, led a force of 50,000 rebels against imperial forces. His army met with opposition from just 500 volunteers led by Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Liu taunted the rebels, so Cheng sent Deng to fight Liu's men. Liu sent Zhang Fei to engage Deng and Zhang slew his opponent easily. The furious Cheng rode forth to fight Zhang but encountered Guan Yu and was killed by Guan in a single blow. Cheng's rebel army disintegrated after its two leaders were slain.
