Bunn is a town in Franklin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 357 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Bunn is located at coor dms|35|57|29|N|78|15|7|W|city (35.958106, -78.251980)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 357 people, 162 households, and 84 families residing in the town. The population density was 669.4 people per square mile (260.1/km²). There were 179 housing units at an average density of 335.6/sq mi (130.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 63.87% White, 29.97% African American, 0.84% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 2.24% from other races, and 2.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.08% of the population.

There were 162 households out of which 24.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 48.1% were non-families. 43.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the town the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 74.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 70.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $26,563, and the median income for a family was $45,804. Males had a median income of $30,833 versus $23,571 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,711. About 8.4% of families and 16.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.3% of those under age 18 and 33.3% of those age 65 or over.
