Area code 919

Area code 919

Area code 919 is a telephone area code serving all or parts of 11 counties in the north-central area of the U.S. state of North Carolina. It serves the primary cities of Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill, and the surrounding suburban areas of the Research Triangle Metropolitan Region, as well as the outlying towns and nearby rural areas of Oxford to the north and Goldsboro to the southeast.

The area code permits 7 or 10 digit dialing for calls within the area code.

The area code is slated for an overlay with area code 984, however the overlay was deferred in October, 2001, when the supply of numbers was deemed sufficient for the near term.
