Monika Rosca (born May 4, 1961 in Łódź) is a Polish former child actress and a current pianist. Her only movies were In desert and wilderness movie (1973) and miniseries (1974), as well as dubbed The Water Babies British cartoon from 1978.

Childhood and further career

Half Romanian Rosca was nine when she beat over four thousand other girls in the castings for the role of young Nel Rawlison (she was twelve when the movie was completed).

After the movie's success (it remains until today the second ranked movie in Polish cinema if you consider the number of viewers), she didn't follow acting career but got back to her elementary music school, where she played at that time the piano and flute) and followed that path.

After high school she went to the Warsaw and Łódź Academies of Music where she received a master's degree in fine arts.

Two time recipient of Fryderyk Chopin Society Scholarship, Rosca became an assistant professor at the age of 24 but gave up teaching to concentrate on an international career that has included concerts in Poland, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Romania, Russia, Korea, Indonesia and India.

She has won a number of international competitions, including the Rina Sala Gallo in Italy; Chamber Music and Karol Szymanowski Competitions in Łódź, Atheneum Piano Competition in Athens, Milosz Magin Piano Competition in Paris and Fryderyk Chopin International Competition in Poland.

Current life

Rosca had her album released recently

A Chopin devotee, Rosca delights in playing Chopin with Orchestra and often plays concerts for the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw and Żelazowa Wola. She spent couple of years at the contract in Japan.

She remains until today in touch with Tomasz Mędrzak, her co-star from In desert and wilderness. In 1975 she was rewarded with Czechoslovakian magazine's "Kvety" award.

In early 2000, when press started talking about the upcoming remake, she appeared together with Tomasz in Wojciech Jagielski's television talk-show, notably commenting on the "old" movie.
