Northrop is a city in Martin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 227 at the 2010 census.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 262 people, 104 households, and 79 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,747.4 people per square mile (674.4/km²). There were 111 housing units at an average density of 740.3 per square mile (285.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.62% White and 0.38% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.38% of the population.

There were 104 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 22.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 111.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $38,333, and the median income for a family was $42,250. Males had a median income of $31,000 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the city was $35,785. About 3.7% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.6% of those under the age of eighteen and 9.1% of those sixty five or over.
