George F. Comings (1848–1942) was a
Wisconsin politician. He was born inVermont in 1848, but moved toSt. Joseph, Michigan with his parents in 1870. In 1900, Comings moved toEau Claire, Wisconsin , where he was a dairyman and bredHolstein cattle . He became well-known as alecturer on agricultural topics, and in 1920, he was electedLieutenant Governor of Wisconsin ; he served two terms as lieutenant governor, from 1921 until 1925. In the 1924 election, he ran forGovernor of Wisconsin but lost in the Republican primary toJohn J. Blaine , the incumbent. In 1927, he began working in theWisconsin Department of Agriculture , and in 1928 he was made a statehumane officer . He held that office until his retirement in 1939; he died in 1942.References
